We have visited this restaurant multiple times and feel that our assessment is fair. We believe that the lemon chicken, chicken pieces (misleadingly called chicken balls), egg rolls, etc. are pre-deep fried and then reheated, as the breading appears deep-fried but is soggy. The steamed rice should be authentic, but it seems to be converted rice rather than fresh, fluffy white rice. These shortcuts are not what we expect when dining out. While some dishes are good, overall it falls short. As a result, we have decided to look for a new Chinese restaurant. They have not met the standard of Canadian Chinese cuisine that we are accustomed to. We will not be returning.
Great meal which came fast and fresh, This time we started with the Moo Shu Beef, as we like to make up the crepes into the little parcels of yummy food. The vegetables were not over cooked as they still had some crunch to them. We tried the Imperial Shrimp and it lived up to the menu description of being shrimp in a delicate sauce. Again the vegetable were crisp but cooked and the shrimp was wonderfully soft. I thought that the sauce could have been a bit less delicate but it definitely countered the spiciness of our last dish Hunan Beef. All the food arrived hot, fresh and well cooked. Each dish is accompanied by a bowl of steamed rice.
New ownership has made quite a difference to the detriment of this once great restaurant. Appears to be of considerable poorer quality. This was in our opinion one of the finest Chinese restaurants in SW Ontario. We will now have to find another location to meet with friends for lunch and dinner for Chinese quisine. Very disappointing for Brantford in general. We have been going to this restaurant since the early 1990s. Changed hands suddenly and changed quality suddenly as well. We are saddened by this.
3 of us went for our usual, lemon chicken, snow peas and water chestnuts and rice comes with it. Usually lots of sauce with the snow peas and lemon sauce is usually thin and tasty. Now hardly any sauce in the peas mixture and lemon sauce is thick and tasted like fake lemons . Must be new owners, quality not as good and to top it off 4 kids running around chasing each other. Not an enjoyable dinner. And the decor needs updating and new china, Won’t be back . Very disappointed!! Réservez une table maintenant
The restaurant is clean. We were seated right away and our drinks were quickly brought to the table. The servers were friendly and attentive during the entire visit. The food was brought out very quickly and was served hot and looked very good. The taste was good with some of the the food items tasting different than other places such as the almond soo guy. Overall the meal was very good and the service great.
The food was served piping hot and arrived at the table very quickly (perhaps this was due to arriving just before the lunch crowd.) The "20k Beef" was served with a small bowl of steamed rice. I felt quite satisfied after I had finished and will definitely return. They don't have a buffet or combination plate, which is a shame because it would have been nice to sample some of their other offerings.
My husband and I went last week, we though that the restaurant was out of business but to our surprise it was open and renovated, not outlandish but clean and comfy. The food and service was very good and tasty, spring rolls, egg rolls, wonton soup, hunan beef, chicken chow mein, chicken balls and rice, all serve piping hot.. It is the only place, in Brantford, that we will go to!
