Very cool place in Kona town. Looked for a place to get good cheap eats. Shouldn't go wrong with a name like Chubby's Diners, right? Wasn't disappointed and actually surprised. Didn't expect to find a big arcade, pool tables, hip bowling alley geared to all ages and families, and a nice big bar for adults to balance their time. And yes, the food was ono. Had a long line that quickly formed, but went down just as fast. The order takers were quick, courteous and pleasantly answered any questions we had. It all depends on what you're looking for. Chubby's isn't the easiest place to find, and you'll need to have a desire for some straightforward local food. For starters, it's located inside a bowling alley, and there's no sign outside indicating the restaurant's presence—you really have to know it's there. Given the setting, don’t expect an intimate dining experience; the sounds of arcade games and the clatter of bowling pins can make it hard to hold a romantic conversation. I was disappointed with my meal at this restaurant. The fish of the day (Mahi) that I ordered was grilled and extremely dry, with an overwhelming amount of raw garlic on top that made it difficult to eat. I appreciated that the kitchen was still open at 10pm, but I regretted spending $27 (including tip) on a meal that I struggled to finish. The option to substitute a side salad for the typical mac salad was a positive aspect, as I am not a fan of mac salad. Perhaps I should have chosen the Oxtail or something fried, as those seem to be popular choices among other customers.
We stopped by for late lunch. This place is located inside the entertainment center where you can play games, but we were there for the food. We ordered the mixed plate with fried shrimp and kalbi ribs. The place comes with rice and macaroni salad. We also had the furikake chicken which also comes with rice and macaroni salad. We liked the food, the kalbi ribs was the favorite . The atmosphere is pretty chill. Aloha.

Super pumped about this place! Underwhelmed when we walked in as there are very few good restaurants in a bowling alley in the states, but this place is killer! Their teriyaki chicken beats any Hawaiian I’ve had state side and their nachos… their nachos… just get them. They don’t look like anything special, but they are absolutely amazing! I will come back to Hawaii specifically for these!
The counter-style food and service at this restaurant were good. I tried the teriyaki beef and chicken katsu mixed plate. The katsu sauce tasted similar to bottled A1 sauce, which was disappointing. I would have preferred brown gravy like they serve with Loco Moco.
Fun atmosphere with games and activities to keep you busy and entertained. Great menu variety. Our meals came out hot, fresh, and in a timely manner. Staff was friendly and helpful as well.
The food at this bowling alley is surprisingly good. The fish and chips are delicious, and I really enjoyed the adobo. I'm looking forward to trying the oxtail soup the next time we visit!
