The Cloisters is the main restaurant inside the gothic style Nutfield Priory Hotel. The location is fabulous and we enjoyed pre-dinner drinks on the terrace overlooking the Surrey countryside. Once inside we took the 5 course tasting menu. Generally the dishes were good, nicely presented with interesting combinations of ingredients, such as salmon ballotine with air dried cherry tomatoes. Fabulous. We also ate on another night and enjoyed the richly flavoured beef mosaic and the tomato carpaccio with butter bean caviar which was rich and imaginative. The overall experience is let down by the chaotic service. There is something wrong with the staff organisation, because despite lots of very friendly and helpful waiters dishes took ages to arrive, were incorrect or for other diners. Examples included a meat amuse bouche, despite us requesting a pescatarian meal, the waitress asking if we had enjoyed our starter, even though it had not been served, being given someone else's wine, then their main courses, and so on. I'm not sure if it was because of the service issues, but too many of the hot dishes were guily of being slightly dried out, which suggests they had spent too long on the pass. I think the staff are new, so hopefully once teething issues are resolved this will be a great place ot eat.

Love the nutfield priory and got married there a few years ago, so decided to go with my wife for our anniversary. We have been to the cloisters quite a few times and always had a five star experience. This time I’m sorry to say has been a massive disappointment. The restaurant no longer feels special, the service I’ve experienced before made it feel special, even if it was the fixed price 4 course menu. This last visit wasn’t great. Not sure if it was a bad night or if the manager wasn’t there, but not far off a chain restaurant service. No fixed price menus with coffee to finish is a big loss, as although not cheap, was good value. Food wasn’t that special this time either. Unfortunate won’t be rushing back

Exceptional food, we chose the Taster menu with wine pairing. The only criticism I have is that the dishes were not explained to us, I had to get the menu to remind us what we were eating, as too with the wine pairing, it would of been nice to know why it was chosen etc. The restaurant was very quite so lacked atmosphere. Hopefully this review will help with educating the staff and encourage people to go to add to the atmosphere, would definitely go again just for the food.

We love the Nutfield and It’s our go to place if we want to feel special but something has gone horribly wrong and although the prices have stayed the same, the service was terrible. Our pre dinner drinks came without any snacks etc and dinner menus were requested but didn’t arrive until our glasses were empty and we had to ask again and several times during dinner we had to ask for refills. Sadly we won’t be back.
