I like Clyde's. My wife and I lived in Washington, DC, for years, just inside the line separating the city from Maryland. We have a place there now, because of my elderly father, just a few blocks away from Clyde's, outside the line on the Maryland side. I am partial to the crab cakes. They would pass muster in neighboring Baltimore, the capital for this dish, in the generous, fat chunks of meat blended with a modicum of filler if any at all (there must be something to bind it). The great news is if you arrived to Bethesda Chevy Chase area or arrived to one of the local hotels late in the evening, this restaurant is open until midnight. I did not find any other local restaurants open past 9 or 10 pm. There was a bar open across the street (nice looking), but their kitchen closed at 9 pm. My family and I have dined here probably times since the restaurant opened more than years ago. Food was very good or even better on almost every occasion, but todayâs brunch was terrible. Arrival of our dishes took an eternity, and almost everything was badly overcooked. The waiter was sympathetic and polite, but all he offered was to take our plates back for a do-over. We opted not to wait an additional half hour or more. We were cramped in a corner booth with very little room, we kept kicking each other under the table accidentally. Restaurant was empty at 5pm on a Monday, specifically asked for a table away from other people on the OpenTable reservation noted needing more privacy and we were seated right next to another table. We could've had some time to discuss business before the restaurant was busy if we were seated slightly away from other guests. Our service was very unfriendly and there was a hassle with our checks leaving my credit card unusable. The manager that assisted us didn't really help. As much of DC institution Clyde's has been over the years, I fell like it may have lost some of its shine. I visited the Chevy Chase location on a slow weekday afternoon and sat at the bar with what seemed to be a diverse crowd of frequent customers. The menu is available at the bar and has a mix of American fare. The bar staff was friendly, but oddly refused to do anything about one customer who sat at the bar listening to music on his phone through it's speaker at full volume. The nearby hosts also did nothing. Eventually, another customer had to confront the guy, and after a brief argument, he turned the music off. The staff just didn't seem to care.
Haven't been here in over a year and a half due to quality going down each visit... came here today, as a black guy I'm not expecting favoritism from black servers, just respect. And unfortunately, the young black male that served us service was extremely lack luster borderline rude as we watched him shift to happy happy to others each time he served them. The last few times we were here, we were at least provided with bread for the table, this time no. While the food was pretty good today I refuse to come back to this Clyde's location due to the limited menu and terrible service.
This Saturday (September 7) at 9 pm, FLASHBACK will rock the Race Bar downstairs at Clyde's with their usual infectious mixture of soul, rock, funk, blues, and jazz with a dance beat. You can order from the kitchen or the bar, enjoy the music, or dance till you drop. Or all of the above! NO COVER CHARGE. A good time awaits! They play here on the first Saturday of every month.
This is a classic fav!! I stopped by here for a quick dinner on the way home from an appointment. Always great service and yummy food! This place is enormous and boasts lovely decor and at least 3 bars! The downstairs is huge with a cool bar for watching sports or just hanging out! Always a good time at Clyde's!

On my most recent lunch visit here, I had the trout entree. I liked it very much, crispy on the outside flavorful. It came with green beans, one vegetable I'm generally not keen on. But I ate them this time they were good. As always, I liked the ambience here very much. Classy in an Old School kind of way.
everyone in my fraction agreed that the service, the atmosphere and especially the eating was excellent. this seems to be the general experience in all restaurants under the roof of the clyde.
