We were looking for a place to go for lunch prior to going to Thermea for the day and a friend found Coconut Island Restaurant. We were looking for Vietnamese or Thai and It had some good reviews so we went. What we did not know was they had just opened within the last two weeks. There is a wide variety to choose from on the menu.Three of us went. I had the Red Curry Soup with shrimp, it had at least 6-7 good size shrimp in it and was loaded with broccoli bamboo shoots and numerous other veggies and it was excellent. You get to choose the level of spiciness and I chose hot and loved it!My one friend had the Green Curry Soup with chicken and pork and she was very happy with it as well. The third person in our group had Pad Thai and it too did not disappoint. Upon chatting with the owner we found out that they also own Vientiane Restaurant on Marion in St Boniface. When working at SBGH I had started going to that restaurant in about 1999-2000. No wonder I am liking Coconut Island. I definitely recommend this restaurant and hope that they are as successful as they have been with Vientiane.
