This was our first time here. The first problem started when I walked up to the host stand to ask if there was availability for 2 people. She told me the earliest she could seat us would be at 8PM; it was 5:57 so we thanked her and left. Once we were outside the restaurant, I opened the Open Table app and saw they had multiple openings as soon as 6PM. Why didn’t she offer us one of those spots?! I took a 6:15 spot. It was outside and the area was sunny, hot and kind of crammed but we took it since the place was packed. The service was EXTREMELY slow. My dish, the lobster cannelloni was ok. Some of the pieces of lobster on top of the dish were dried, like the dish had been put in the oven and...
It was a disappointing dinner. Service was fine, ambiance is good. The 1905 Salad is very good and made tableside. The bread is very good. The dinner was just not good. The rice and beans were OK, but the yucca, empanada, and pork slices were just so-so. The vinegary pork slice was just not to my liking. It seemed wildly overpriced at $30.00. Maybe if I were to have spent $40 or $50 on a nice fish or a steak it would have been good. In any event it seemed way overpriced. I visited Cuba about ten years ago, and the food there was not very good. Maybe just stick to a salad and soup.
Our food was delicious as usual. My complaint is with the hostess staff. I made reservations several days in advance for an inside table at 6:30 pm. My party was on time and they were insisting on placing us at a table on the edge of outside in the blazing sun. Not an option for us. The hostess did not want to help this situation at all. We would have been happy to wait for an upcoming appropriate table. Finally I found something that worked and they sat us toward the kitchen. Suggest the frontline staff get lessons on customer care.
We have dined at Columbia several times now and each time we have really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere. Our waiter tonight was Mike F, who did an outstanding job as our server. He provided excellent suggestions for food and drink options and was very personable and attentive. He made sure to check on us repeatedly and provided the top notch customer service that I would expect at a nice restaurant. If you are going to dine at Columbia, I recommend asking to be seated in Mike F’s section for great service and conversation. Réservez une table maintenant
very nice restaurant with plenty of seating indoors and out. Off season is best time to go if you don't want to wait for a table. Our only issue last night was the wait time for food after we ordered. There was hardly anyone in the restaurant so it made no sense. Turned out there was a computer issue and the order did not go thru. I do feel the server should have been more attentive to the fact we were waiting so long. Once the issue was fixed we were served quickly. as always the food was very good.
Quality food and service. The grilled red snapper and the grilled grouper were delicious. The food was perfectly seasoned. And the Cuban bread will keep us coming back!
