Recommended by a friend after some sports, I was pleasantly surprised by my visit. Initially, I didn’t expect much variety at a British pub that serves pasties, but the online menu changed my mind. I tried the curried carrot soup, curried potatoes, and the vegan oggie pasty. The soup was flavorful, and the accompanying bread had a nice texture. The potatoes were pure comfort food. The oggie was hearty, generously filled with ingredients, and the pastry had a perfectly crispy outer layer, especially delicious with the provided sauce. The food is excellent, but I have to admit I'm a bit hesitant to return due to the cleanliness of the restaurant. If the kitchen is as neglected as the dining area, bar, and particularly the bathrooms (which were quite shocking), I'm not sure how safe this food is to consume. Additionally, I'm not convinced it's worth the $15-$20 per plate. I found Sunday brunch to be even messier than my Saturday night experience, but I can't fault the quality of the food or the friendliness of the staff. That said, I think Gordon Ramsay would definitely have something to say about the state of this place.
Cornish is a staple in the Tempe/Scottsdale area for me and a place that never fails me. Each day they make a certain number of each pasty and keep selling till they sell out. As usual I got the Cajun option and tried the Guinness as well which was great but would have liked the potatoes a little less firm. The first time having Scottish potatoes was interesting and I think I enjoyed them. Acquired taste maybe??
This was the first time my husband and I visited this restaurant. My husband loved their soup. We both ordered Cornish pasties and they are delicious and very filling. I am glad I did not order a side dish. We visited the location in Scottsdale because we were in that area, but next time we will go to the location in Phoenix since it's a closer location for us. The food is absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. The interior has a rustic charm, and it feels spacious and breezy when the weather is pleasant. They offer a great selection of draft beers along with traditional English dishes, and the mushy peas are a delightful and often overlooked highlight. I would highly recommend this place!
The food was quite good, and I’ll definitely return. However, it's frustrating how often they run out of items, making it tricky to plan your visit if you have specific things you want to order. The restaurant has a worn appearance that might deter some customers. As long as you're aware of this going in, it's a decent experience overall.
I've never heard of a Cornish Pasty before eating dinner here, but I know for certain that it won't be the last time I try another. The lamb and mint Pasty I had was delicious and was made even better with a pint of Guinness fresh from the tap. I'm already excited for my next visit here.
You will not be disappointed with a meal from here. The Guinness Stew Pasty is on-point, with just the right amount of tender beef and sauce. Looking for something spicy? Try the Cajun chicken pasty. Delicious! And the service is always terrific! Réservez une table maintenant
