We were looking for somewhere different in our local area that offered delicious food for Friday night dinner with friends. Read some great reviews for Counter Eatery and learnt they had just recently commenced a dinner menu 3 nights per week. Wow what a Dining Experience; good service, attentive & friendly waitress, wonderful French gourmet menu selection; all meals cooked to perfection and beautifully presented, arriving to our table in such a timely manner to enjoy without fault. You select small and large plates for your order, which are meant to be shared. Hard to pick which one was the hero dish; the sand crab cakes & chilli jam, or cauliflower fritters in lime yogurt, the duck confit...
I phone around restaurants until I located one open for Easter Saturday. I made a booking for 5 families to celebrate a special birthday. The restaurant assured me that they were open and would accommodate us. They wrote down my mobile number for a contact. We all arrived to find the restaurant closed! No phone call. Embarrassing!I spoke to the manager in person Tuesday after Easter and saw the booking clearly written in the book with my contact. No explanation, just sorry. No compensation or restitution offered. That is five families that will not be back.
Tucked away along Gooding Drive at Merrimac is a delightful eatery that proved a real surprise. Great menu with different taste combinations all with fresh produce and beautifully presented. Even the plates were different to the usual white standard ones. There seems to be a little French influence here and our hosts were welcoming and extremely busy. It was great to get avo on sourdough that wasn't smashed to pieces. All our dishes were really tasty and fresh and congrats go to the chef.Go along sometime and relax and enjoy this great little cafe.
Refreshingly unique menu brought sensational taste surprises that the trendy cafes on The Goldie haven't ventured before!Choosing for the first time I decided on one of the Lunch specials, Gnocchi with mushroom and spinach YUM. You will not find better!Meals are not expensive and cater for all food requirements without compromising on recipe requirements, quality and taste.Meals are generous size portions.You will not be disappointed!

We were so excited when Counter opened for dinner and celebrated a birthday there. It was such a treat. The food is magnificent and the service is brilliant. We sat on the deck and had a beautiful romantic evening that you wouldn't expect in downtown Merrimac. Counter is such a find. It's definitely our special place. We love it.
We have eaten here a number of times and we love it. The food is always fresh and delicious and they have some yummy meals for people with food allergies and vegetarians. Discovered the turmeric latte with almond milk on my last visit and loved it! The staff are always friendly and helpful. We'll be back again and again.
We've visited this place twice now and it never disappoints. Brilliant French cuisine, great coffee and friendly staff. It isn't nearly as busy as it should be.
Blackboard coffee, which my husband and I love. Cheaper meals than going to Blackboard in Varsity and the flavours are unreal. I had the power bowl; delicious!
