During this visit, as we often do, we ordered breakfast. I created my own house-style breakfast and highly recommend trying the breakfast meat sampler because everything is delicious. My husband ordered the bacon and hash brown casserole, which he absolutely demolished. They also had a few special summer drinks, including a Rocket Pop Mimosa that was incredibly sweet! It was one of those drinks that makes you feel like you've reached your sugar limit for the day after just one. Nevertheless, it was a fun and sweet twist on a classic. Receiving your complete order seems to be a hit-or-miss situation here. The items they did have were delivered promptly and still warm. A few days ago, I tried the chicken fried steak breakfast, which I really enjoyed. Today, I decided to try the chicken fried chicken with grits, and it was just okay—not something I would order again. It lacked gravy, which really impacted the overall experience. Since I eat only once a day, that definitely had a cascading effect on my meal. To add to my disappointment, Cracker Barrel also didn’t have coffee available with my order. That’s two misses in one order, which doesn’t bode well for their average.
Cracker Barrel used to be a reliable spot for decent food, but that’s not the case anymore! I ordered chicken dumplings with broccoli, and the broccoli came with a mild sauce that didn’t improve its flavor. The cornbread was burnt and had a strange texture. The chicken dumplings were basically a glob of watery flour. The coffee was barely warm and had a bitter taste. While the server was friendly and tried their best, the food was the worst I have ever been served. It’s clear that the kitchen doesn't care about quality.
The location is excellent, as there’s plenty of parking available, so you don’t have to walk to a different lot and back. However, the wait staff seemed a bit understaffed. They were friendly but appeared rushed and didn’t have as much time to spend at our table as they would have liked. On the plus side, the food was fantastic, as always! I dined there on June 14, 2017, at 12:30 p.m. The waitress was outstanding! I ordered the country ham with mashed potatoes and cream gravy, along with the new Brussels sprout, kale, and pecan salad. Everything was delicious! The salad was especially wonderful; I highly recommend it! The food was served promptly, making for an overall fantastic dining experience!
We arrived right at noon and only had to wait a few minutes to be seated. Our server, Richard, was very friendly and did an excellent job. The chicken and dumplings were delicious, and my daughter really enjoyed the little burgers and fries. We will definitely be back!
