Dabbawalas Indian Kitchen

Dabbawalas has become our family’s favorite lunch and dining place, serving amazing authentic Indian vegetarian meals. We can highly recommend for example Masoor Daal, Palak Paneer, Paneer Veg Curry and Mango Lassi. And of course not to forget the crispy and absolutely tasty Dosa yumm. It is one of the very few places you can get Dosa in this country. This is rounded by the impeccable and personal service. Guru and Decan always have a smile for you they are awesome! You can get the food to go or sit down and enjoy your meal in the unique atmosphere of the Markthalle.

We reached Basel on weekend and usually very few restaurants were open around 4. This is very close to Basel SBB station and is open shop by Indian guy from Karnataka and best part is this is veg only. He has Thali so went for it which has 2 dishes, naan/roti, rice, sweet dish etc. He also has South_indian food and he even prepared one complimentary for us as gesture of great hospitality. Thali was around 20-25 CHF.

It was raining on a Friday evening when we arrived in Basel and headed for the Markthalle. After checking out the foodie options we went for Dabbawallas and thoroughly enjoyed a mix of veggie curries, rice, naan and of course dahl. The dishes were well spiced but not too hot, so some pickles added pizzaz. Smiling service and a cool beer too. We like!

We travel from Paris to Lucerne and we have the change to Basel SBB train station. The change between the trains was very low. We just drove to this restaurant and took a quick lunch. Lunch was very nice and fresh. the owner has also advised us about train platform and timing. That was quick help.

Try four different curries with rice, naan bread and a drink. Delicious and valuable. Perfect meal in Basal. Thank you.
