I started working at Dairy Queen in my hometown of Hubbard, Texas, so I have a special love for the restaurant. Over the years, I have noticed a decline in the quality, service, and atmosphere of Dairy Queens in general. However, I continue to visit new ones in search of that original charm. Mt. Vernon's Dairy Queen did not disappoint! The local customers were friendly and the employees were equally welcoming. I have been a regular at this restaurant for years and always thought it was the best Dairy Queen around. However, my opinion changed yesterday. I ordered two Hungry Man meals and waited for the usual 20 minutes to receive my food. Right from the start, there was a ding in the service, but the food was always fresher before. I don't know what happened, but this time my burger was soggy and tasted like it had been microwaved. It was so bad that it made us gag. The vegetables on the burger were scalding hot, even hotter than the burger patty itself, leading me to believe that the burgers are microwaved. None of the ingredients seemed fresh. My family and I visit Mt Vernon regularly and decided to try something new by going to this Dairy Queen for lunch today. Unfortunately, it was a mistake. We ordered 3 meals through the drive-thru and waited over 30 minutes in the parking lot. Despite inquiring about our order twice in person, it still took a long time. When I finally went inside, the cashier ignored me and did not address the issue. The restaurant seemed to be run by teenagers who were more interested in talking than working. The line of customers was visibly unhappy. We will not be returning to this location and will stick to Whataburger for future road trips.
There were two people at the registers - one counting money and the other taking orders over the phone. I patiently waited at the counter for service, but when someone became available to take my order, I was cut in line by another customer who was clearly not there before me. Unfortunately, nobody said anything and the cutting customer's order was taken. Instead of causing a scene, I decided to leave and went to Sonic to save money. This may be the best Dairy Queen I have ever been to, and I am a native Texan. My husband ordered the warm fries, which were hot and fresh from the fryer. The burger was also hot, flavorful, and freshly made. I am now a loyal customer. Everything was just as it should be - hot, crispy, tender, and the toppings tasted like they were cut specifically for my sandwich. Well done to all of you! Thank you!
This restaurant is on the pricier side. I wish they had a value menu. The staff is friendly, but I wish they had a self-serve kiosk like at Taco Bell. I would choose this place over McDonald's. The food comes out quickly. Overall, it's a good place to eat in a convenient location.
