We sat on the terrace, which was lovely with a view across the pond. We placed our order, and after about ten minutes waiting we were told that they had run out of peppers so two of us had to choose a different starter. We chose mixed olives , which turned out to be not mixed at all, just a bowl of small, tasteless unpitted olives that were all the same. Three of the four mains were good. I had a halloumi salad, which was well presented and tasty. For dessert, three of us ordered Eton mess. This was the most disappointing of all-the berries were not fresh (I 'd guess frozen, but could have been tinned), and there was hardly any meringue. Nicely tucked just off the A128 and a delightful setting with a stunning view from the restaurant. The food (and a variety was served among our group) was very well presented and ingredients were all fresh. The meal itself was cooked to perfection and the drinks were very keenly priced. The staff could not be faulted and were always on hand and very helpful and very courteous. I was pleasantly surprised at the friendliness and endearing sense of humour exuded by the staff and all in all it was a very enjoyable dining experience.
I have visited this restaurant multiple times because it's conveniently located near my place, and I often make last-minute decisions. It's also great that they allow pets in the bar area where you can dine. However, it's a bit annoying to have to see a couple of TVs no matter where you sit - I have a TV at home where I can watch what I want. The food is decent but nothing outstanding, and the menu doesn't change much except for a few specials on the board. It's pretty much your typical pub grub.
