My parents live in Almonte, so I went out there to make them dinner. Figured I’d support a small local business and I’m glad I did. They cut some chicken thighs up for me perfectly. The quality is outstanding. Friendly atmosphere too. Meat is often the star of your dish, so don’t skimp. I encourage anyone who lives in the area to try them out if you haven’t before. I’ll be back!
I love butcher shops... I mean real butcher shops. Don's Meat Market is a real butcher shop! Don took some time to talk to me about what he carries, where it's from, and his standards for quality. I was quite impressed. Everything from nitrate free, to grass fed, to farmed deer, elk, and bison. And some pretty good butter tarts too.
This was our first visit to this shop, and we enjoyed some tasty sandwiches, purchased a variety of deli meats, and bought some other fantastic local cuts of meat. The owner even brought out a treat for our dog. The place and the people were lovely. This has now become our favorite butcher shop!
I always make sure to stop at Don's (and the nearby Beer Store) on my way to the cottages from Ottawa. I always pick up a steak, some kabobs, and a few sausages for snacks later on. The restaurant offers a fantastic array of freshly prepared meals that are made on site from scratch. The meat cutting and presentation are expertly done, and the staff is happy to provide cooking tips for any dish. Remember, a skilled butcher is also a skilled chef!
