Visited for festive afternoon tea on Christmas Eve. Arrived to the young man on reception who wasn’t particularly friendly. He seemed reluctant to answer our questions and wanted us to hurry and sit down (there was nobody else waiting to be seen and the phone...wasn’t ringing so not exactly busy). Seated in the bar area as dogs aren’t allowed in the bistro. We knew this in advance so not a problem. It was really cold inside. They had the fire going but it was a large area and my hands and face were freezing. The fire wasn’t nearly enough to heat the room. Barman was friendly and cheerful. The Restaurant is pleasant and I can imagine that on a warm evening the decked area is enjoyable. Since reopening, only the All Day Menu is available, but there is a varied, if not plentiful choice. We both chose the Endive and Roquefort Salad; however,...when the dish arrived the walnuts had been substituted with pecans and there was no sweet mustard dressing, merely salad oil. Pecans are not a substitute for walnuts on a salad they are too sweet, too brittle and just wrong! No notification was given upon ordering and no explanation given when the Course arrived. We were provided with this food at a charity event and were extremely pleased with our experience. From the moment we walked into the restaurant, we were greeted by Sean who welcomed us and recommended a wine for us. The service was attentive and the food was simply perfect - the best we had in a long time, especially considering we eat out often in the northeast. I had the shrimp cocktail, which was delicious and fully peeled, while my partner had the rabbit pate followed by lamb and spare ribs, all of which were exceptional. An honest review. Four adults and two small children. Total price for Sunday lunch £190. I had the beef dinner and the whole dinner was very good. My wife had the chicken dinner an again was very good. An important part of any meal for...me is the wine. So first thing we ordered was a bottle of my favourite wine Pinot Grigio. It cost £34.00 and was very disappointing. Yellow in the glass which is never a good sign. The head waiter asked me what I thought of the wine and I said to be honest it 's bad. The food at this restaurant was excellent. The service, particularly from our server Abi, really enhanced our dining experience. All the staff members were friendly and professional, but a special mention goes to Jack at the bar for his patient and intuitive cocktail recommendations. The courtyard setting was very refreshing. Abi's wine suggestion complemented our meal perfectly and she was personally engaged and helpful with all her recommendations. The team at the restaurant seems to genuinely enjoy their work, and we are thankful for the wonderful evening we had. I’m not sure where to start reception was not very welcoming the room was not what I would call superior dated and shabby restaurant meal was horrendous the steak was raw they cannot possibly call themselves chefs need sacking it’s the worst meal my husband...has ever had in 13 years I have never known him complain will never return to this establishment. I must say however the bar staff Anna was excellent a credit and saving grace for the hotel service was wonderful and she was so lovely and polite a credit the manager Andy was also very good and tried so hard to accommodate us well done Andy and Anna.
For our main courses, I ordered the steak hache with a delicious pfefferkorn sauce, while my client opted for the smoked haddock fish cakes, which were cooked to perfection and full of flavor. The dessert selection was extensive, and after much deliberation, we finally settled on the crème brulee for me and the chocolate tart for my client, both of which were absolutely delicious.
The entire evening was flawless from start to finish, and we received exceptional service from Katie. We also had the pleasure of meeting the deputy general manager, Shaun, who was also very friendly.
My friend and I booked her hen party and we paid a deposit, before Covid. We obviously had to postpone. By the time it came to rearrange, we weren’t able to go ahead with the event and asked for our deposit back. There was no...record of us paying, as the staff member who had dealt with it had left. The next person dealing with our case, Emma, was rude, obnoxious and eventually stopped replying, and we didn’t get our money back. Will never be returning and beware if you’re booking for a group.

my partner and I were in the hotel and had dinner in the bistro. all three dips were delicious and beautifully presented. we have sought from our beautiful server nehal!
