My family did not like Duke’s; they loved it! We have talked about stopping here on the way to and from Charlotte /Savannah for years. Chick-fil-A will never be our half-point again. My favorite was the hot meat pudding over rice (hash) and the slightly sweet Hush puppies. The little bird who hates pasta only ate Macaroni and cheese... two plates. Everything was delicious. The staff is a testimony to the southern hospitality and the southern kitchen.
If you are passing through Orangeburg or visiting, or live here. Do not...I repeat...do NOT miss out on this great BBQ. Dukes has it all, smiling faces, friendly staff, amazing BBQ, and the best sweet tea around. Definitely a hometown favorite around here. We love Dukes. Family friendly, fair prices, and you won't be dissatisfied with their food. P.S. Don't forget the banana pudding or you'll never forgive yourself.
Another great place! I was here in the 80s. It is just a little from the I 26 in Orangeburg. We had the buffet. 2 types of chicken, pulled pork, Hush puppies, Mac and cheese, green beans, Slav, potato salad, pork crackling. Very good! My favorite was fried chicken and green beans. And pork cracks! They use disposable plates, cup and flatware. The buffet is everything you eat and costs $15.
It looked like they only drove you, but no. You had to pay $10 inside and serve as often as you want. You and a customer, could say we were not southerly as they instructed us to eat the pulled pig with oash (not even know what that was! Rice, Coleslaw and sweet pickles and a mustard sauce. It was surprisingly good and so much more digestible than any fast food. Great discovery! Thank you.
