But when we had breakfast here a second time, we could not believe how poor the experience was.We had breakfast on the Sunday of a long weekend; our poor server looked exhausted and frazzled. She confided that many employees had failed to show up for work and the restaurant was operating with half of the usual number of servers. I absolutely love this place. My wife and I visit as often as possible. It's well worth the 25 minute drive!Being English, I love the concept of "American Diners" with hearty food and good coffee. I have never had an issue with the food here (and my wife can be quite picky sometimes!)I usually go for the same thing- weston omelette with bacon and coffee. My wife loves it here because they have a non-meat option with the eggs, rather than just having no meat. They give you the option to have grilled veggies with your meal. I went here with my wife and daughter. We ordered breakfast and the waitress asked what toast giving three options. White, brown and rye.The food came and was good, the service was average. Now my complaint is not the food but the bunch of ignorant people working here.The bill came and there was a 50 cent charge for the rye toast. When I paid I told the waitress that she should have mentioned they charge extra for the rye toast when I ordered. She offered to take it off my bill but I said it was ok just that she should really tell people when she gives the options for toast that there is an upcharge for rye. Admittedly, breakfast is pretty straight-forward and difficult to mess up, although I have seen it done. But this was the best breakfast I have had in a long, long time. Excellent coffee and I was asked many times if I wanted a top up. My chicken soup was delicious and came in a huge bowl; had I know how much soup I would get I would have ordered a lighter main. My wester omelette was substantial and tasty, the potatoes were great and more than I could eat (my mother said the potatoes were the best she has had) and all four of us really enjoyed our meals. Very good food and friends and friendly service. A bit warm inside and a little noisy but to be expected Ina place with an open kitchen. Hurricane skillet was great but too much for 1 person. If we ever come back to this area we will certainly come back. Chicken panini was breaded but edible.
