Cheap, clean, safe. That is their website description. Very, very, old and stinking of cigarette smoke should be highlighted. I checked us in and signed the very explicit no smoking policy. Shown up to the room via the "old high school staircase" (their comment not mine) and was immediately bowled over by the stale cigarette smoke smell. Opening the room door was just as bad and the staff member agreed. We returned to the counter for a full refund and I headed off to find another hotel. Total waste of our time and their website is mis-leading at best. Look elsewhere for budget accommodation. Pooraka Hotel is only 10 minutes further out. Rating of 1 only because I cannot give negative numbers...

There is plenty of seating provided, in bright daylight or more subdued setting. A major down point: the plastic (?) chairs are not only uncomfortable, but also too low for the height of the tables, which makes the dining experience memorable for the wrong reasons. On the positive side: my barramundi came well prepared, both in the culinary and visual quality. It was an excellent meal. My husband obviously enjoyed his vegetarian meal as well. When we arrived there were mostly empty places, there were a few more taken when we left, but by no means crowded. Good for the meal, but not good for seating comfort.

I recently tried the Scotch Fillet steak special on a Friday for $20 at this restaurant. The steak was so tender that I didn't even need to use a steak knife, I was able to cut it with just a butter knife. The service was friendly and informative. I really enjoyed my visit to "Blair" in Kilburn, which is now known as the Empire. It's a great spot with a lot of history, so I think they should just call it the Kilburn Pub. The atmosphere and experience are truly worth the visit.
