My partner and I like to ventures out and just find places as we walk around. On this occasion we found Esca, and boy were we not disappointed. We did not have a booking (so we are use to turn downs, because we hardly ever book) so we weren't expecting to be seated quickly, particularly on a Saturday night. We were surprised to be seated immediately. The atmosphere was delightful, so nice for an intimate affair. We initially had double deciding as all of the menu sounded fabulous. We went with two pasta dishes to share (our usual method of ordering) and were delighted to be asked when we ordered if we were going to share. We were a couple having dinner on a Saturday night. It was busy when we arrived. We were there for the first time since we were booked in to the Stamford Grand for the night, and on looking up places for dinner came up with the Esca which had many accolades. For good reason! Our waiter was Rossi, who was excellent, helpful and unpretentious, but always attentive. Looking at the portion sizes we knew we were going to struggle with an Entree and a main so ordered our mains first up. The Angus Beef steak was cooked to perfection for me and my wife had the fish which was Barramandi and a side of potatoes and we were happily full. Second visit tonight, first was on Valentine's Day and did seafood platter for two, possibly the best seafood platter in Adelaide! Tonight shared three of the "medium" plates. Hervey Bay scallops, black mussels and crab linguine. All dishes tasted fresh and vibrant. Service was impeccable, very helpful without being intrusive. Will,definitely be back again and again and again. Last note, you absolutely have to try the mussels, they are awesome!
Very disappointed with this restaurant. We went for a family birthday and found it lacking in atmosphere with high prices and average food and service. One example being when I ordered a drink, they wrote it down and never gave it to me. Took a while to get the attention of the waiters. Food was very ordinary. Not what you would expect from this location. Would not come back. Réservez une table maintenant
The food and service here weren't bad, but it they weren't overly great either. It was all satisfactory. For the price paid you'd expect just a little bit more. Also, there was a really strange smell in the restaurant, like an earthy/animal smell & around the toilets there was an extremely strong sewerage odour.
