We picked this Indonesian restaurant for our Christmas in July venue. "We" are 3 brothers of Dutch origin and our spouses. Our family has a strong connection to Indonesia - my mother and I were born there. This unassuming restaurant in a little shop at the RIversdale Road tram terminus in Surrey Hills gives few hints of the treasures within. It is clean, cheerful with a friendly young lady who takes orders and delivers the food. The specialty of this place is the fish cakes. I'm so glad that the other restaurant we were going to was closed on a Tuesday night, so we've found this Famili Ria nearby, specialising in Indonesian Fish Cakes. Casual, simple "not-much" set up, fold-up plastic chairs, semi-self service for your water, crockery, extra sauces, etc.We've ordered a couple from their extensive Menu; Combination Fish Cakes - good array of fish cakes, nicely fried, especially that spicy sweet (palm sugar) & sour vinegar sauce, and Chicken & Wonton Noodles - cooked and garnished well, plus take away Rice & Satay combo, probably the only downside.Small in portion, just like back home, very well made, tasty, quick and definitely a good value for money.A good quick...

Restoran ini cukup mengobati rasa rindu makanan Indonesia ketika saya berkunjung di Melbourne. Makanan yang direkomendasikan di restoran ini adalah pempek dan ayam bakar. Pempeknya cukup enak dan sama dengan rasa di Indonesia. Porsinya cukup besar. Yang tidak kalah enak adalah ayam bakarnya. Ayamnya empuk dan bumbunye meresap sekali ke dagingnya. Sambalnya juga sangat enak sekali. Pelayanannya ramah. Kekurangannya di restoran ini tidak tersedia toilet untuk pengunjung.

I've eaten here awhile back thinking it's just for pempek (palembang fish cakes). Then a cousin told me they also have good bakmi, noodles.ChewyYummyNot to oilyNot dryJust rightAnd most importantly, you don't have to wait forever unlike some other places...Nothing gets left behind in the bowl.Their pangsit goreng (fried wantons) are also great.Not sure about the smiling girl but the food so good, it doesn't matter. I had never ate Indonesian before and discovered this place by accident. Since, I'll likely go once a week. The girl at the counter is always smiling, happy to make recommendations on what spice to use. And boy those noodles dish are good. I don't like their fish cake one bit, but seeing how popular that place is, it's obviously a matter of taste. To me they taste nothing but the sauce you dip them in.

I have been missing Indonesian food for a very long time before my sisters took me here. Had the pempek sampler and bakmi ayam (chicken noodle) and the pempek was my favorite. The chicken noodles are not the kind you find in usual Chinese or Asian stores so if you ever visit and have a friend, try those two to share for experience :)

Looking for something different, we stumbled across this place. More known for Indonesian pempek, we loved the fragrant chicken dishes - Ayam Bakar ala Oma and Nasi Ayam Sambal Ijo. Service can be slow and servings are on the small side but surpasses in flavour! For starters, ask for mild. Medium or spicy can be too hot to handle.

It is always nice when you visit a new place and the staff are just so helpful and polite. I had no idea what to order as I had never eaten Indonesian before and the staff were so helpful and suggested a couple of things and they were beautiful. Will definitely be going back for more fish cakes. Réservez une table maintenant

What an amazing discovery. Here in the suburbs is Indonesian cooking, without any apologies to European tastes. I found the range interesting, the quality good, and the prices inexpensive. My curry chicken with vermicelli was a spicy soup.

Very nice authentic Indonesian food, cook to perfections. The fish cakes are very tasty. It's a good place to bring your friends and families to enjoy authentic Indonesian food. Yummy.
