We have tried a number of the A Tavola venues but not this one previously. We invited another couple and settled in on a cold, rainy Thursday night.Service was immediately brilliant. Taken to our seats, we were asked if the temperature in the room was ok and offered a warming drink immediately. Although the menu is small, there wasn't anything on it we wouldn't have happily ordered.When the other couple arrived, we grabbed a plate of Jamon, some olives and fried calamari to share. All were great.We then all chose different pasta mains and everyone seemed to be very happy with their selection - mine was a crab linguini and not too large. We had previously dined at the restaurant when it was known as "Besser" and when we booked, we didn't know it had changed it name and menu. BUT, this was a fantastic surprise. We shared 3 entrees: calamari; olives with mince and prosciutto with buffalo mozzarella (this could be the best mozzarella I've ever tasted). For mains we had the gnocchi with wild boar, special meat balls, seafood linguini, fusilli (tomato). Everyone loved their meal and the meal size was quite substantial so we only shared a desert. Had a lovely dinner here, friendly and relaxed. Menu quite small but enough to choose. I love crab so chose the crab linguini, nice sized serving and lots of delicious crab all through it was pretty amazing. There's a good wine list with some nice Italian wines as well as Australian and quite a few by the glass. Dessert was beautiful, from the specials board, pannacotta , with a hint of basil (took us a while to work it out!) and raspberries plus raspberry gel and some crunchy bits on top.served in lovely pottery dishes. We hung around a while chatting and altho they were busy we didn't feel unwelcome, all the service was great. Highly recommend it.

We had the truffled Maccheroni, taleggio, truffle pecorino and the lamb pappardelle. Both were delicious and our waiter was really helpful in pairing them with an organic red wine.
We have found our new local favourite!

Always drop in to Surry Hills for a meal when in Sydney.Found this place by accident,was pleasantly surprised at the intensity,lovely and accomplished staff,had us seared and wine in hand in a matter of minutes.....the place was packed with Sydneys " groovy people".Small but complete mine,tried an assortment,Lamb,gnocchi and a great truffle dish,absolutely perfect ....just like Momma,true true....5 start rating with great well priced choices of meals. I'll be back team.
After booking and confirming a degustation meal with a credit card, I was informed that the degustation was only available with the matching wine option. I mentioned that we did not opt for the wine matching because one of the guests is pregnant but they still refused our booking. Certainly not an inclusive establishment as it does not welcome those who are pregnant or those who don't drink alcohol due to illness, medications or addiction.
Adopting the style of their other restaurant this establishment serves a small but delicious menu focussed around well made fresh pasta. All choices within our group were enjoyed to the max. Great wine list but maybe the wine choices could include a lower price option. Attentive service. Relaxed dining with a semi open air atmosphere suits the great Crown St Surry Hills restaurant precinct. We strongly recommend.

Great little eatery with home made pasta.We had oysters for an entree,the fish special and the crab and chilli pasta,everything was fresh and tasty.The house Merlot was a nice drop as too the affogatto to finish.The staff were very efficient and friendly and the atmosphere was warm and inviting.We would go back again.
