My partner and I were given an early Christmas present of afternoon tea at Folk on Tuesday afternoon, how lucky were we!! We were seated at the bottom of the new extension, in a booth, which felt very exclusive. The cafe was buzzing, and the whole place was so festive, even down to an elf serving the afternoon tea! Now onto the food I've eaten a lot of afternoon teas in my time and this was up there with the best of them, everything was freshly prepared and all the cakes were made in house. Love Folk, the food, the people, decor etc. but the music system is dreadful. If you’re further down the cafe you will be fighting against a loud boom boom boom ‘noise’ to have a conversation. A bit like sitting on a building site! We are coming out to meet our friends to chat with them after all, and if we have to raise our voices the whole time it becomes very wearing and unpleasant. I understand acoustic mufflers have been fitted, which is great, however it is the volume the music is played that seems to be the problem. Since expanding you are supposed to just turn up rather than book but taking an elderly relative this meant queuing for 45min on a cold Wednesday at noon. We were then offered uncomfortable high bar stools on a table shared with other people. Difficult for an 80 year old. Coffee was very good but service slow and sandwiches were indifferent if over complicated lots of nice sounding ingredients but actually just a lot of stuff mixed up in mayonnaise at £11 each I had high expectations of the sandwiches and didn’t really it as bland sandwich spread vibe. Curt staff who told us after an hour of sitting (and eating) that we could only stay for 2 hours and despite ordering tea and cake after lunch (felt beholden to it's what we felt we were being pushed to do), we were asked to leave as our 2 hours were up part way through an unwanted pot of tea. Real shame. Sometimes going large isn't going better. It felt very much like a money grabbing experience over customer care. In addition, acoustics are now dreadful and it was difficult to hear each other talk. Not somewhere to go if you're catching up leisurely with friends.

Fabulous Lunch, we had one of the booth seats and great for a group of 5 as easy to chat to all on table. It was busy but no problem with noise and music was just background, so not intrusive. We were sat quickly and orders taken. Food was great, loved the fish finger sandwich and others raved about scotch egg with slaw. Definitely will try next time. Great bottle of Prosecco that was reasonably priced and best coffee Staff are friendly and chatty especially our server in the pink dungarees Looking forward to returning.
We booked and ordered ahead as there were 9 of us. The menu has many choices I was tempted by so many of the dishes, but settled on Mushrooms and spinach on sourdough very generous portion of mushrooms and crunchy sourdough toast. It was very busy during our visit lots of tables and sofas but all were full creating a buzzing ambiance. On the negative side our party agreed the food could have been hotter, but that wouldn't put me off returning or recommending to others. Parking is easy that is also a bonus.
We had a really lovely team breakfast here today. Eight of us, all eating and drinking. First time I've been since the extension wotk and it's so lovely! Great atmosphere, the food was really delicious! Service was quick, friendly, and efficient from a great waitress with odd trainers on and another lovely waitress who very kindly solved a mix up on an oat milk latte for us.
I had a great experience at this restaurant! The atmosphere, food, and service were all wonderful. I tried the scotch egg and it was delicious. The place was bustling and had a lively atmosphere, especially for early January. The waitress was fantastic too. I highly recommend this restaurant.

This cafe is fantastic, with consistently delicious lunches and a charming atmosphere. Unfortunately, the coffee was a major letdown. It's disappointing because everything else about this place is top-notch. I've had better instant coffee than what was served today.
