It took me some time to track this down on Trip Advisor as I was looking for this as a hotel with a restaurant when, in truth, it's the other way round. Now I've found it, I can say that it is a delight in both guises. We booked on the recommendation of Alastair Sawday in his book "Special Places to Stay" and it was very special. The reception staff were welcoming and helpful and the room, an upgrade, was modern and beautifully presented. My wife is a coeliac who must eat a gluten free diet and whilst the menu was not too helpful in that regard, an enquiry via the reception staff resulted in the chef/proprietor, Fredric Carrion, emerging from the kitchen and having established my wife's food...

We had intended to dine elsewhere, but found that restaurant booked, so on recommendation of our hotelier, we booked in here. Located in a "spa hotel" Le Relais de Montmartre is a stylish, modern facility with a beautifully decorated dining room. The food was absolutely up to it's status as a Michelin starred establishment--modern, inventive, and beautifully served. The only downside came with the bill! There have been complaints here on TripAdvisor that when the chef was awarded his Michelin star prices soared. Well, that is true. Cet hôtel et restaurant est une visite incontournable en Bourgogne. Bien que la région sud de la Bourgogne ne soit pas aussi connue que la Côte de nuits et la région de Beaune, cela vaut vraiment le coup de passer une nuit dans cet hôtel de Vire. 10...sur 10 en service, confort, style et cadre, l'hôtel dispose de 9 chambres toutes avec un style différent du champêtre romantique au moderne mais toutes de bon goût. Ils proposent des vélos pour parcourir le village et les vignobles environnants, un spa et bien sûr le restaurant. Le chef est incroyable ! Mon mari et moi avons dîné dans ce restaurant et avons passé la nuit dans leur petit hôtel. Le village de Vire lui-même est magnifique et la maison (hôtel et restaurant) joliment rénovée et accueillante. Nous avons cependant été très déçus par le dîner. Nous visitons fréquemment la Bourgogne et avons essayé de nombreux restaurants dans la région. Cet endroit nous a fait nous demander à la fois si les Français avaient perdu leur touche particulière en matière d'ingrédients et de cuisine, et pourquoi ils viennent dans ce restaurant (je pense que nous étions les seuls étrangers au dîner, ce qui est généralement bon signe, mais pas cette fois). After failing to get a booking at another Michelin starred place nearby, our hotelier recommended Le Relais de Montmartre. We were not disappointed, except at the prices which were nearly double what we had paid in another nearby, also Michelin starred restaurant the night before. Previous reviewers here had noted that when the chef won his Michelin star prices soared. Well, that appears to be true. Nonetheless, what is provided is a wonderful dining experience true to modern haute cuisine in a beautiful setting with fine service. We stayed here on a cold February stop over, The rooms are very comfortable but quite expensive starting at 150euros but this was made up for by the food which was was amazing the 4 four course seasonal meal - starter,mains,cheese dessert included four extra small taster dishes and was 49euros . How can you make creamey mashed potatoe with cauliflour cream reduction taste so fantastic --- add truffle ! The dining room was full on a Wednesday night Well worth a detour.

Would throughly recommend the restaurant, good value for the quality of food, the hotel is only worth going to for the food but it was wonderful and service excellent, everyone friendly but only a few people in the hotel on a Sunday evening in June.
