Fretwells is a relatively new restaurant that has been open for a few years in the former Printworks building. The owner has done an amazing job of creating a traditional pub atmosphere, even though it is a new establishment. The pub has three rooms, including a spacious bar with views of Scale Lane and High Street, a lounge, and a games room with pinball machines, table football, a bar billiards table from the 1920s, and an internet jukebox. They offer a great selection of cask ales and other beers, including a delicious elderflower lager. The staff is friendly, but the pub is not dog-friendly. Apparently this pub has been open for four years First time I have noticed it though a bit tucked away at the end of Scale Lane It’s friendly and it’s decorated as if it’s an old pub that’s been there ages. Anyway I visited with a friend (we are both retired) and we stayed and had a few beers and there was a decent choice of real ales. Also as a bonus if you are over 65 ….which we both are You get a 20% discount which I have never seen at any pub before We will visit again for sure…
