For many decades, I used to eat at the Restaurant Frohsinn in Opfikon some 4 miles from Zurich Airport, with airline and tour operator friends. I knew that this restaurant also had a few rustic rooms but no airport bus shuttle service. On May 20, 2019, I had difficulties finding accommodations near Zurich Airport. I called the restaurant,, and I was told that the owners, the Grimm Family had decided a couple of years ago to turn the former farm ranch building (the Kuhstall) into a 4-star hotel with 30 rooms and that city bus #759 with ample baggage space now stops right next to the hotel and restaurant. We were staying one night at a Hotel near the Airport. We found this wonderful restaurant just 5 minutes away. It is also a small hotel. The atmosphere was so lovely. We didn’t have a reservation and as soon as we walked in they made a table for us and made us feel so welcomed. The food was delicious. We husband and 20&21 yr old) all had something different and we had to share a taste of each other’s as it was so very tasty. Thanks so much for a wonderful evening.
At the Restaurant you will get a good choice of traditional Swiss dishes (meat, fish and vegetarian). They also serve seasonal and some Thai dishes. The prices are normal for Swiss standard. The food is excellent. The service very friendly and fast. From the Airport it takes about 5 7 min by taxi a must visit when you stop over in Zurich. If you drive yourself there is ample free parking available.
This was today really a good example how a restaurant, also around Zurich, still can be managed with customer centricity. We were eating outside, very nicely settled and decorated with plants. The food was perfect (Cordon Bleu, Carpaccio, Roast Beef, filet cubes, fried chicken) including desserts and fairly priced wines. The service was quick, friendly and attentive. Highly recommended!!
