A beautiful Italian restaurant, housed in an old customs house, with excellent kitchen and very nice staff. Especially beautiful is the courtyard, which lies on a steep slope and gives a little impression as if you are on holiday. Prices are absolutely reasonable. But I have to make a small criticism in these special times: The staff uses mouth-need protection rather than chin-low lip protection. In addition, the contact tracking list is not compliant with data protection by reading the names, addresses and telephone numbers of all previous guests. Nevertheless and especially in normal times: a beautiful, highly recommended restaurant in Essen-Kettwig!
we have eaten twice in the gallo nero at night - everyone has earned a second chance. Unfortunately, the same picture was shown twice: the reserved table was not free at arrival, the waiters look very arrogant, the service is bad. you wait long until the order is received. the dishes listed on the map are probably always only to be part of (which is said to one but only minutes after the order) - funnyly, there were no more two attending the same dishes - e.g. the hard fish carpaccio - should this perhaps only read well on the map? eating is okay, more but also not - the value for money is not right here!
we have been a few times in the gallo nero eating and it was always excellent. actually nothing can be missing here, from appetizer to the main dish to the dessert has always been super tasty. a special highlight is the pasta torment me, which is rolled in parmesan. Today we were there for the first time to brunch and that was very delicious. it was served for gang and there was nothing to complain, but you could really lick the finger after it. Overall, the restaurant is certainly not one of the most favorable, but if you want to eat well and drink, the gallo nero is always recommended.
Had dinner pretty late but that was no problem at all. The wine we ordered was not available but they give a solution. That wine was super good. Smooth taste and a fantastic smell. Bruschetta was really amazing and the main dish pasta finished in the Parmesan cheese never tasted that before and such a good flavour. Ravioli with Mushrooms was very tasteful. Service a friendly and solution driven. Because we wanted to pay with Credit Card and the system didn't work. There solution was sorry please come back tomorrow to pay and we offer you a drink on the house. Really amazing!!

We have been walking that restaurant many times and have decided to try it once.We came quite late in the afternoon but it was no problem.The waiters were friendly. The menu is very large and one can always find something which suits to its taste !The veggies were well prepared and the beef so tender ! We were offered some Fingerfood as a starter.The decoration is loveful. Nice glasses. No Music but it was ok.The price was ok. The only problem is to find a place to park. We will probably come again.
For the first time we have noticed the whole family the Sunday brunch.More great appetizers, a very tasty mother-of-pearl dish and a delicious dessert - better hardly goes.To nice ambiente and the almost family service you really don't need to say anything anymore - this is definitely no 08/15 Italians around the corner, but itals off the tourist trails.
