The pub was quite empty, and we placed our orders for food and drinks. They offered a good variety of ales on tap, including my favorite, Spitfire, but we settled for Master Brew as it was the only one available at the time (my wife opted for a bitter). We ordered scampi and chips along with a side of onion rings. The scampi, priced at £8.99, seemed like a decent value.
Unfortunately, it took a while for our food to arrive, and we were served what felt like a 'bucket' of chips and another 'bucket' of scampi. The portions were not oversized, but once served on the plate, they seemed adequate enough. That said, the triple-cooked chips were a bit too greasy for my taste.
