We discovered this place on a Tuesday lunchtime, after a hot morning's walk up through the town. I asked for a dark beer for my husband and a coke for me, but the landlord (who doesn't speak english) shook his head and said 'you don't want coke in this heat - have a Radler' in the nicest possible way, so I did. It turned out to be a pint of draught, ice-cold lager shandy and was indeed much better than a coke. So having looked at the menu, and the plates of food being brought out to people having lunch, we went back that evening for a meal. The food is regional Bavarian cuisine and standard. Sometimes the staff is friendly, sometimes stressful and inattentive. There you can always meet locals with beer and playing cards. The leading chef is a qualified butcher, his son is trained for the cooker. If you want to enjoy the Bavarian cuisine, this is the right place, but do not expect organic food. There are a few places in the open air. In beautiful weather you will enjoy the historic marketplace and Bayertor (as of 1425), the landmark of the city. Car traffic is only allowed near local residents. From the main market place (Plaza) to march up to the Sussbraeu is a bit exhausting.

We came to this small town and booked this restaurant for our new year eve dinner. Staff are friendly, they tried to explain what they have with their menu, as my partner I am not German. We ordered the new year eve...dinner set. The food was cooked nicely and the part was appropriate. As others said, large groups, local people were dined there and some customers even went to the kitchen and chatted with some staff. Warm family like dinner we had, a little like home dinner, although we are miles away from home.

Then come to the sweet brown ... men play cards at the next table ... a big family at the next table ... yes, that’s what home feels like ... very friendly service with good humor ... delicious food ... I ate a Vienna Schnitzel ......... a little different prepared, very good ... the selection is typical Bavarian .... delicious .... I enjoyed the Weihenstephan beer especially... thanks for a nice evening...
