The older woman who runs the place is rude. I don't say that lightly. There are many, many other places to check out besides this one so I'd strongly recommend doing so. My girlfriend and I sat down to have a beer before our 8 pm night's watchman tour. Not only did it take 20 minutes (literally) for us to get two beers but the staff is disrespectful. First, the waitress rolled her eyes when we told her we only wanted a beer and sighed. I mean the sort of eye roll that is meant to be apparent. That is never the way you treat customers. My wife and I have eaten here this month, having recently returned to Europe, and also on numerous occasions when we lived in Germany 2008-2010. This is our hands-down favorite place to dine in Rothenburg. This is the non-touristy place to go for great German food in this town. Small, family-run and friendly - but do not expect more then a few words of English -- although they have a small English menu; ask for it. Our hotel receptionist recommended this restaurant to us. We would not have found it, or gone to it otherwise. The street outside is being relaid at present, so there was nothing to attract us up the street, particularly as there are plenty of more 'visible '...alternative on the busier streets of the town. A bit strangely we were seated at a large table already occupied by another couple; not a problem, except that the gentleman began to noisily clean his teeth while we still ate.... Been coming here for 13 years and just love the good quality freshly cooked food and at a reasonable price. I have to say we have never experienced any problems with the owners or staff, in fact they are most friendly. Although I will say...some of the customers are very rude and I feel they must think if they shout loud enough they will be understood.

I have been to Rothenberg many times but never overnight so had no idea where to go for dinner. We asked our hotel owner and he suggested this place. It was a typical German place. Small, friendly, great beer and food. Our second night we ate at one of the big cafes in town square and it made me wish we had come back here.
