The pandemic has not been kind to eating out and the G&D has put up prices significantly, charges 12.5% service charge, but is not delivering at that level and is now brewery owned. Having used the G&D for 33 years, with it changing ownership a few times, this will be our last meal for a while. It can remain for drinks and nibbles but not for food. The service was very good and attentive, but the food was mediocre at best, with a steak and sides at nearly £40…. We were really disappointed with the food the menu sounded interesting and it did not live up to the descriptions. Overpriced steak, sticky tasteless beetroot hummus and a crab risotto which was salty and had bits of cucumber stuck in it. Lovely staff though. Sorry won’t be returning.

Lovely food, great service (and they turned down the volume of the music when we requested that it might be a bit quieter). Perfect place to stop when walking nearby.
