While Grinzing may be known for boisterous crowds of tourists inebriated by the heady new wine, the real "Heurige" experience is low-key: you bring a picnic, or order a meal, and taste the local wine in a quiet garden. This is the place for such an experience. It may be more crowded when the new wine comes in during autumn, but in early August we encountered nothing but sedate locals (judging from their accents) enjoying the fine (and fortunately, acoustic) music of a violinist and accordionist performing old Viennese songs (a bit schmaltzy, but that's part of the experience).
