We had just been to the massive shopping streets around Hohe Straße and we were in need of break from the madness of these streets when we headed to Gilden Haus which is a nice peaceful pub and an oasis of calm,it's a pub I...always visit on any holiday I take to Cologne as they serve some of the best Kölsch beers in this city and the staff are really nice and friendly. This pub is the real deal,etched stained glass windows,superb pub and beer posters and enamels adorning the walls,an all wood interior with great decor and furnishings and low lighting giving the place a cozy look,there's also plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, as it we were here over the Christmas period the pub was decked out superbly with Christmas decorations ,it really is a cool pub to visit. We were here on a Tuesday afternoon and we were about the first customers of the day so we could really appreciate what a lovely looking pub this is ,a very pleasant member of staff took our order of a couple of Golden Kölsch beers and these were served iced cold and sparkling and we just chilled out and planned out our day ahead in this wonderful city. The beer was absolutely delicious and we ended up staying for one more,before we moved on we had a shot of Flimm which is the green woodruff drink that is found in most every bar and pub in Cologne,it's delicious and at it's not too strong but it is very tasty. Gilden Haus is really easy to locate on Grosse Bundengasse which is just off one of Colognes famous shopping streets namely Hohe Straße. Opening hours are, Monday to till Friday till till A great pub and one I highly recommend you visit if your in the area.
After arriving in Cologne early evening, we stepped out to find a bite to eat. We were looking for somewhere authentic for a warming dinner. The lovely man in a waistcoat couldn't have been more welcoming and friendly. A fantastic start to our break away...with some delightful traditional food. Had no idea what the English translation for the desserts were, so they were a lucky dip both were lovely! Thoroughly recommend a visit here
Located away from the busy Alt Markt up a side street this is my favourite place to relax in Cologne. A warm welcome and excellent Kolsch make this pub a great place to while away an hour or two. Two big TV's are great for...watching sport on and the food always looks very good, although I have only partaken in the home made Frikadelle which is very tasty.
