The “Goldmund” literature café has been an institution in Cologne Ehrenfeld for years. The place is very popular and therefore there is always something going on. I find the concept of the “Goldmund” very successful: one sits in the midst of up to the ceiling of rich bookshelves, whose focus is travel literature and foreign-language literature. The books can be read on site and partly also purchased. The Goldmund is a so-called “bookcrossing zone”. Bookcrossing is a global action for the exchange of books with mostly unknowns that can be tracked through a website. The Goldmund in Ehrenfeld is one of my favorite locals. The atmosphere with the books and the cosy corners is the right place for a latte with cake in the afternoon as well as for a delicious dinner. The map is varied, besides slightly oriental/indian dishes with Falafel or Dhal, the Schnitzel Wiener Art is also included. My favorites are the big salads with fruity dressing and homemade hommos. Rich selection for vegetarians. Even for breakfast you can go, but is not my time for the Goldmund ... If much is going on, it will be a little loud, especially in the back room the acoustics is not yet optimal. Outside seats are possible both at the local and opposite on the square, in summer this is...
One last year with a girlfriend! The selection of dishes must be liked. but I did. So was very happy with the food. The service was very friendly and chatting. We felt comfortable! In the cafe itself I was just a short time to the toilet but in passing it looked very cozy there. Since we were sitting in the beer garden, street musicians came by not the ones of the impressive variety and played music in the background for 15 minutes! All in all, a very beautiful evening.
Very cozy café, which invites you to stay. The food is also super delicious (one of my favorites is the Dahl).
In summer you can sit very nicely outside. Nice business, delicious cakes. Currently also mulled wine sale....
