Notre famille de 4 personnes (mon mari, moi et ses parents) souhaitait un repas formel traditionnel pendant notre voyage de 8 jours. Comme nous logions au Grand Hôtel pour la nuit et que c'était des vacances, cela semblait être le bon endroit. J'étais un peu sceptique car l'hôtel, bien que très beau et propre, était un peu fatigué par rapport aux autres endroits où nous avions séjourné. Injustifié car la nourriture, le service, le rythme et l'ambiance étaient tout simplement charmants. La nourriture était joliment servie, d'excellents vins ont été choisis pour nous et c'était vraiment délicieux ! Les escargots et les terrines étaient merveilleux et le plat principal au foie était incroyable....
I had the filet mignon, my colleague, too. With that I ordererd non carbohydrate (evening) sides ... Always making it complicated for the restaurant staff. Also asked for a Loire red wine recoomendation from the headwaiter, as I believe it to be a good habit to drink the loacal wines where you stay. Headwaiter made the best wine reccomendation, one from Chinon ... I remember Chinon from a campground ( unfortuntely also from that weird Frendch habit to put nuclear power plants in their nicest countrysides) I stayed at 30 years ago. We are four couples traveling together on two canal boats. We were able to tie up at the base of the impressive abbey and only a short walk from the restaurant. The service was very attentive and the food very imaginative from relatively simple staples on the seasonal menu, beautifully presented. The asparagus first course with Parmesan and country ham was delicious as we're the other appetizers. Again excellent main courses (pulled lamb with cauliflower mouse, chicken crusted with vegetables, hake) and a magnificent cheese tray, delicious strawberry soufflé, chocolate mouse, multiple sorbets for desert. Quite elegant! A good choice of wines in all prices.
We came here after visiting the most excellent Abbeye du St Pierre opposite.A major refurbishment is taking place but the restaurant was still open.The waiter spoke impeccable English and we really enjoyed our food and wine here. There are cheaper places to eat but this is very good food , impeccably served and it really is good to indulge at times. A good fine dining experience. Réservez une table maintenant
Beautiful decor, attentive service, and delicious food. Was a bit on the more expensive side of mid range but worth it. Our table was by the window with a view of the garden. Very convenient to have lunch here and then go to the 1:50pm chanting at the Abbaye. But verify the schedule hasn't changed. They have cancelled that time the day we visited.
We turned up without booking, wanting a reasonably relaxed meal rather than a "grand" occasion. We needn't have worried - staff were welcoming and attentive, and the food was excellent - so we came back again another night. Parking at the rear, or in the public square behind the hotel.
