"It is as simple as that: Good food, friendly people and good wine! We had to go there twice because the porcino from the woodfired oven was so great... We fell in love with it. But also the pochero or the ropa vieja tasted very good. And the wine was the best we were allowed to drink on the island. Perhaps it isn't a great wine for the real wine connoisseurs but we liked it very much. Fresh, fruity without being very sweet and refreshing. And the people who work there are very nice our spanish is very poor but we had lots of fun while ordering the dishes. Don't hesitate go there and give it a try. It's fun and it's very good, solid food!"

Our daughter came along with us this summer and introduced us to our first Gauchinche. We pulled in to this small farm and parked in front of a vineyard. The actual eating area is quaint and very rustic. You walk by the cooking area and the smell of burning wood is everywhere. We ordered huevos rotos, queso asado, bistek, ropa vieja (chick peas with bacon, potatoes in the most delicious sauce). The huevos rotos consisted of fried potatoes smothered in fried eggs and cooked tomatoes, smothered in smoked fiery paprika. YUMMY. The fried cheese was covered in honey and some was covered in mojo. YUMMY. My favorite was the ropa vieja, the chick pea dish. I was so full, but I ate the whole thing because it was so tasty. My husband had the steak on the grill. He said it was the freshest steak he had ever had. He ate the whole thing. We drank two carafes of house wine and had the homemade lemon flan and chocolate mousse for dessert. There are so many Guachinches around and I haven't been to any other. But, this I would consider authentic and just tasty as heck.
