Gurkha Kitchen has been our favourite Oxted eatery for many years. During lockdown, we were able to enjoy takeaway meals however it was wonderful to book a table for friends and ourselves for an eat in meal. The staff, as always, were very welcoming and...gave just the right amount of attention ensuring our orders were taken and we had all we needed. The food was delicious. Beautiful balance of spices, tender meat, tasty side dishes what's not to like! The chocolate and ginger scoops of ice-cream were also excellent. My partner and I went out for a “ date night” for the first time in 6 months and we decided to try the Gurkha kitchen in Oxted. From the booking on their website which is very well presented ,checking in with the Covid rules,...being well spaced out for seating and seeing that all staff were wearing masks. Everything was done properly. The restaurant is very nicely decorated and is very clean. Our food was served in good time and was presented beautifully. All the dishes we ordered were well cooked and were good portion size. The service is second to none with very polite and attentive staff. All in all we were very happy with the whole experience. The prices are reasonable as well.
I used to really like the Gurkha Kitchen, but recent meals have disappointed. Apart from their lovely pork dumplings, most dishes are bland and unexciting. Chicken methi, for example, had no discernible methi flavour. Side dishes such as their cauliflower, lack freshness and flavour. There...is little attempt at a proper welcome: service lacks personality admittedly the masks did not help. We thought they needed to up their game and, sadly, we cannot endorse the rave reviews below.
Last night for my 50. with a friend here. amazing night, the service and eating was excellent and they make the best espresso martinis not added sugar syrup. everyone on our table of ten loved eating and we are already planning our next...going it is not expensive, was quite surprised how cheap the bill was for 10 people eating and drinking for 3.5 hours we plan to visit our next one, that was so good!
Having gone for buffet pre Covid and enjoyed , our recent visit was rather mediocre except that is for the company of good friends . Buffet is not labelled so you have no idea what you are eating ! Food Luke warm and plates not...that hot . Staff slow and not that friendly despite only two other people being in restaurant.
