what can I say about Gus’s. this place definitely lives until hype! hands down the best fried chicken I have ever eaten! the seasoned were simply enough to give a little warmth and they had louisiana hot sauce on each table, which were also so well paired with the seasoned and taste of the huh! mac and cheese were amazing! the homemade potato salad and the fried gurkens were full of taste and simply made so good. The chicken is delicious. They ran out of thighs but that's not unforgivable. The mac and cheese wasn't hot more like room temp and it was topped with unmelted shredded cheese. It wasn't bad tho but it would've been better had it been hot. The server didn't bring my niece's meal to the table and so she had to sit around and watch everyone else eat. Her food was finally brought out after we brought it to the managers attention. The manager was generous in making this mistake right. The redeeming factor was the chicken. It was hot and seasoned very well and this is what they are known for. The vibe is okay. The bathroom wasn't clean but maybe they had a busy dinner rush and had not cleaned it...
I couldn't wait to eat at Gus's but it had to be an off day. I ordered 2 wings and okra. The chicken was fried really hard in old oil. I had to get a side of ranch to help me eat it. The okra was good and I enjoyed it. The waitress was really nice and she did a great job. The inside had a picnic table vibe and used disposable cups and plates which made clean up easier. I forgot to take a picture of the food because I was a little taken off guard to how hard it was fried. Overall I would try it one more time before writing it off.
I don't just give 5 stars. gus’s world famous chicken has earned it! they've checked everything I'm looking for. they were polite, attentive to our needs, kept our drinks full, eating was hot, fresh, tasty and tasteful! the bathroom was clean and the waitress made great, and honest recommendations. the waiting time was fair in view of the fresh of the articles. excellent restaurant! After visiting the Central High School Historical site we went to Gus's for lunch. It is located near downtown in a market area so parking was difficult. It was good food but I prefer the Gus's in Memphis. Chicken was good, but a little overdone . Greens were excellent and on the spicy side. Get the fried pickles those were surprisingly good. Our server was great and the staff was friendly.
Probably one of the best fried chicken I've eaten in awhile. Gus's does a great fry on their chicken. When I took a bit, my fried chicken had a good crunch! And I liked how there was a good level of spiciness! The coleslaw was decent, the beans were average. The fry on the fried okra good have been better. Overall, a good joint for fried chicken!
