The best overall restaurant experience I had for a while. Since my trip to Japan I have spent a good amount of time searching for a Japanese izakaya in the Metro Detroit. You can search for a technical definition of an izakaya restaurant on Wikipedia, but for me the key is the combination of high-quality a la carte dishes, cheap drinks and an ultra casual atmosphere. To date, Kitchen Hanzo is the only place in the area that is even close; the only differences that the seat is not private and they are only open until midnight.
