On the day of check-in I got an e-mail to get the key myself out of the key box by inserting a code. I hadn't read the e-mail early enough, and that's why I slept at the reception, which is apparently the room of the receptionist. She understands and speaks only very little German, which is why some misunderstandings have occurred. Check out, on the other hand, went a little different: 30 minutes before I should have left the room she knocked on the door, tried to come in and said I should be out in 30 minutes, key should I put out in the door outside.
