Holzhackerstube

We dined here back in the summer after reading tripadvisor reviews, and were dissapointed.The restaurant itself was very nicely kept, with beautiful views. Unfortunately the staff do not like to speak english, or they didnt to our group. We can speak very basic german, though they allowed us to struggle, rather than just speakng english. Looking at other reviews here, they do speak english, so it baffled me why it was such a big effort.My wild mushroom risotto was very grainy, as though the mushrooms had not been cleaned properly, which made it unusual and unpleasant to eat. The rest of the food was ok, but not special and certainly not as good as what we tried in schladming so far.Would not rush back.

Peter and Sylvia's holzhackerstube provides outstanding Austrian cuisine in a perfect mountain setting. Start your meal with one of Sylvia's great apperetif suggestions. Then let Peter guide you through his menu of the day consisting of fresh local produce of fish and meat with an international twist. Peters cooking is outstanding and each time we go there we are thankful that an acclaimed cook like Peter decided to come back to his home town rather than opening a restaurant in one of the big cities in the world. No matter if you want to spend a romantic dinner for two or a special dinner with friends or family the holzhackerstube is the place to go!

We were eating dinner there this evening and it was an absolutely nice experience.Food was good and served reasonably quickly.The service appeared a bit "improvised" at times but was very friendly and helpful - up to the point of offering additional sauce to a Gulasch where the Nockerl where a bit too many in comparison!!

Wow - what a spot - worth a visit just to sit and look at the Dachstein and across the valley. Great food, great service, great location.

We had soup and local fish for staters and forel and fear lasgna as the main course everythint was delicious and the service was great.
