We were looking forward to celebrating my wife’s birthday at Homies. We were “welcomed” by the bartender. He threw a couple of ironic jokes at us in front of the other guests and also talking arrogantly about us to the waitress, making us both...feel uncomfortable and unwelcomed from the moment we arrived. Our table was app. cm x cm up close to the walls in the corner by the door, both of us facing the walls sitting on rather uncomfortable bar stools. I told the bartender that we were there to celebrate my wife’s birthday and kindly asked if it was possible for us to get another table. He did not seem to care at all, neither did he give us a reply. At that point there were only a couple of other guests and a lot of tables available. We were then to order drinks. Me: “Do you have any other sparkling wine than Champagne”. Bartender: “Do you mean water?”. I was referring to the prosecco presented on Homies’ web page, that did not appear on their printed wine list. After making us feel uncomfortable for the second time, the bottle of prosecco arrived. We then ordered food and it arrived in a rush after minutes. The food was not bad at all, the squid and the veal being very good and the crab and burrata just ok. The downside was that both the crab, veal and burrata were very cold, leaving the impression that it was taken right out of the fridge. The meal went on without any attention from the waitress or bartender (standing meters away from us, preparing drinks and “showing off himself” in a very loud manner, joking about how he made drinks with cocaine in them). He appeared very distanced, self-centered and arrogant – with no attention to or care for guests and their wellbeing. We ended up spending minutes celebrating my wife’s birthday, leaving half of the bottle of prosecco behind. After all, when the service staff make you feel both uncomfortable and unwelcome – you would want to get out of there as soon as possible. Our impression is that the staff at Homies has turned the roles in a restaurant upside down; where the guests are there for giving the service staff attention and recognition, rather than the service staff trying to make sure the guests will have a good time. This is the first time ever that the service staff in a restaurant have made us feel this bad after a visit
