I have dined at this restaurant numerous times and have never been let down. Recently, I decided to order takeout and have it delivered to a village 8 miles away. Unfortunately, after waiting 90 minutes, the food still hadn't arrived so I decided to cancel the order. The staff were quick to respond and offered to reimburse me. Although they requested my bank details, I was hesitant to provide them. Instead, they went above and beyond by having a delivery driver drop off the cash when passing through. It's rare to see a business go to such lengths to rectify a mistake. I applaud their efforts and will definitely be returning in the future!
Visited Wednesday 17th May (closed Monday/Tuesday) to find that it was only open for take-away meals. The restaurant is due to open in July. However, we were invited inside to have a look. Much to our surprise, we were told that we could dine in the restaurant as we had travelled a long way, but I think it had something to do with my charming partner also being from Hong Kong. We had a very enjoyable meal served personally by the proprietors wife and enjoyed talking with her. The food is first class and I have no hesitation in saying that if you like Chinese food and are in Stranraer, then the Hong Kong City Restaurant is a must.
Spare ribs, barely any meat but the sauce was good, Way too many onions which makes a star appearance in abundance of every single dish! Dry noodle dish with chicken. Bizarre. I though dry meant NO SAUCE, apparently I am wrong and it is DRY as in, 'uncooked ' noodles on top of a gloppy, greasy, flavourless sauce but the few pieces of chicken were tender. More onions. 2 slivers of green pepper and thats about it. Hubs had chinese chicken curry. Was very average, chips were good. Prawn crackers tasted of very old oil. Would NOT eat here again, ever.
I ordered food close to closing time. The food I got was cold and re heated. When confronting workers about my experience I was given no help or courtesy. Their customer service was severely lacking and they got on the defence rather than being professional about. I wasted £30 on a takeaway that ended up in the bin. I have been multiple times and the food is usually great quality, however, this time the food was nothing to rave about. Réservez une table maintenant
We were unable to dine in at the restaurant due to restrictions, so we ordered takeout instead. We missed the cozy ambiance of eating in, but we enjoyed our familiar and delicious Chinese meal that we have come to expect over the years. The portions were satisfyingly large. We can't wait to dine in again in the future.
From being one of the finest Chinese restaurants in the World a year ago, our experience this time was disappointing with a below par meal. Yes the welcome was good, staff friendly but the food quality poor. It could be a one off, the place is clean but we noticed dramatically reduced portion size too.
