Visited Horton Grange several times now over the past few times for dinner and have always found the food to be excellent and the service very good. However, visited for the first time on a Monday and whilst the food was as good as ever, the service was not up to the usual standard. On this occasion my wife and I took a guest with us as we recommended this was a very good local restaurant. On arrival, it didn't seem as though we were expected. The food was good. The service was far from good. The staff, especially the lady who seemed the most senior, had attitude in spades. The gents toilet had an awful smell and when mentioned to a staff member she shrugged her shoulders and walked off. Waited for over 19 minutes in the reception with at least 3 members of staff walking passed who did not even acknowledge our presence. The dining room was very cold again when mentioned clearly no intention of trying to remedy the situation, just agreed and walked off. We felt the nearby radiator which was turned off, and turned it on ourselves and the room did warm up slightly. Sorry for the dreadful service we are highly unlikely to return.
Lovely afternoon tea and as it was on offer it was good value for money. However, there was a service charge added to the bill of £2.95 which isn't made obvious. I didn't challenge it due to the offer and it being nice food but if I'd paid full price I would have questioned it. Nice place, nice food I will more than likely be back. Website could be updated also as the afternoon tea's are very different.
Food was superb again. Last time we visited the 2 meals for two for £39.50 was automatically applied. It wasn’t this time and after being ignored for half an hour when attempting to get the bill we couldn’t be bothered to argue. No drinks menu, so we just guessed at what we wanted. Really poor. So disappointing after an amazing visit in January.

My mother, daughter (9), and I recently visited Horton Grange for afternoon tea. We were seated in a lovely room with ample space to move around. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. The staff happily provided extra tea for my daughter, and we shared two afternoon teas between the three of us.
Nice to try somewhere different. Pleasant courteous service, Sunday lunch was very traditional , not much imagination but perfectly adequate. The general ambience of the hotel was pleasant if a little tired and in need of some TLC. We may return to check out the evening menu some time in the future.
First time for afternoon tea at Horton Grange to celebrate our Mums 88th Birthday. Staff and service were both brilliant and the quality of the food was first class and extremely good value. Everyone really enjoyed the afternoon and will be visiting again very soon.
Service was very good, pleaseant team members , Food was most enjoyable and the 2 dine for £39 offer us great value , Limited choice of dessert but we still manage one
