Whilst visiting our in laws in the Dordogne, my brother in law decided he wanted to eat out at lunchtime. Only snag was it was a Monday when many French restaurants are closed. Brother in law would not take no for an answer however, and dragged us to several places (all closed, but he never gives up) until we happened on the Belle Rive in Gagnac sur Cere, idyllically placed overlooking the river. We had no particular high expectations, but after being courteously greeted and seated on the terrace, on looking at the inviting menu our hopes rose. With good reason too, as everything we ate was excellent, from my starter of filet of herring with baby vegetables and salad and my husband's carpacc...
