When I go back to the old country it is a highlight of my trip to frequent this restaurant in Dieburg (in the State of Hessen, Germany, not far from Darmstadt) where you can still find good, traditional German cooking at its finest. Germany has become so cosmopolitan that it's much easier to find pizza, Doehner Kebab, or Greek cuisine than good German cooking. As a matter of fact, I'm always asking around as to where I can find excellent German food when I'm there and my friends are often in a quandary to find me a good spot to go (there are so few authentic German restaurants left in that region) where one can order a good Schnitzel or Sauerbraten or Spaetzle, Rotkraut, Kroketten, good sala...
The restaurant visit was not so pleasant. The ambience old rustic. The waiter shook the tablecloth in the middle of the dining room from near dining guests. A wine card was not to be preserved despite repeated request. The food was good, but it would have been nice if asked about the cooking point of the meat. I can't recommend the restaurant. Interesting was that two of the three waiters took care of the phone more than the guests.
Nice restaurant! Very nice staff! The food was very delicious, but in my opinion, for the size of the portions simply too expensive. I paid for a chopped roast with pepper cognac sauce and pommes, OHNE salad, €9.50. A small supplement salad costs extra 4.30 €. I think that a whole main dish is definitely a small salad. However, I also find that for the size of the dishes 13,80 € is simply too expensive. Otherwise highly recommended.
The staff was very welcoming and got us seated quickly even though we had no reservation. A server who spoke excellent English was very friendly and served us with a smile. The menu was varied with in season specials and the German dishes we ordered were very good. We had a very pleasant dining experience at a great value and would eat here again.

We have always eaten very well in the Schmankerlburg, no matter whether Schnitzel, Medallions, cheese parrots taste the food, and people are very friendly. Also wishes that are not currently on the map are fulfilled if possible. Top! We haven't stayed there.
Great rustic ambience, suitable for traditional cuisine. Fabulous meat specialities and friendly service have also been positively noticed. The price was perfectly reasonable. I will certainly come back again.

If one wants to have a good German/Bavarian meal then Schmankelburg is certainly the place in Dieburg - nice authentic ambience, very good food and friendly service. Totally recommendable.
