For my birthday, my lovely bride took me out to a new restaurant in the Kilkeel Golf Club...Hunters Moon. The Chef has a great reputation from a previous venue in Newcastle and delighted us with his prowess in the Kitchen. Although the menu is compact, it hits all the points that you could want. We started with the Salt and Chili squid and Duck Liver parfait, both were absolutely Spot On. We had a lovely Rioja with dinner that was reasonably priced and had a lovely luscious berry overtone. We have lunch here quite often. It has always been absolutely delicious. There are slight variations on the menus, with different specials on each time we go. Between myself, my husband and our three kids, we have tried lots of dishes. The ribs were a big hit, and today I was absolutely delighted with the squid. The accompanying salads and slaws very unique and delicious. I’ve even started to put a few fennel seeds into my slaw at home thanks to the ideas I’ve picked up at Hunters Moon. My husband had the steak sandwich. It was perfectly cooked and very tender. The sauce that was with it was gorgeous. The staff are very accommodating, offering the children smaller portions of the adult menus...
Wonderful food! I am not easily impressed, and have visited many restaurants in many countries Hunter’s Moon is up there with any of them. Vegetarian options often indicate the ethos of the restaurant, and the chef here easily made the grade. The choice was not wide, but what was missing in numbers was hugely compensated by the quality of the cooking. The flavours were sublime, and the helpings generous Food, glorious food indeed!
Fantastic meal couldn’t be faulted in any way, a platter board was set down with duck, roast beef, spare ribs, turkey and ham in a stack for each person topped of with a Yorkshire pudding , a bowl of champ, carrots and parsnips, cabbage and a bowl of stuffing for sides absolutely lovely and the desserts didn’t let the dinner down. Visited Hunter's Moon on the 13th for my birthday. We did have to wait a while for our food. The wait was worth it. The fish and chips are the best I have ever tasted. As for the peanut and chocolate cake it was to die for. I would definitely go back here to eat and highly recommend visiting here.
Visited here for evening meal with family. The food was very good although a bit slow. Setting was very nice over-looking the golf course. Staff were not friendly and seemed a bit disinterested. Lacked atmosphere. Kitchen door left open creating a lot of noise. Don't sit near the kitchen.
Best place in the area without doubt. Experienced chef from a fine dining background, but originally from Kilkeel so quality food mixed with top notch flavours. Highly, highly recommended.
Visited Hunters Moon this evening and have to say my husband and I enjoyed a steak sandwich and burger , full of flavour, perfectly cooked and presented . Will be back soon .

Have been in here a good few times now. Food is amazing. Staff is amazing. It’s such a lovely place to go for a meal
