Mainz' Neustadt district, the area stretching from Hauptbahnhof (central station) to the Rhine, is undergoing a rapid gentrification with new cafés, restaurants and cool small shops popping-up every month. One of the notable newcomers of 2016 is Hygge, a small café only two blocks from the train station and reason enough to walk around the hardly inviting highrise Bonifatius towers that dominate the entry into the neighborhood. "Hygge" is a Danish term that only roughly translates into "coziness" or the German word "Gemütlichkeit". And cozy the café is indeed with its fresh, clean, Scandinavian appeal and the wooden furniture. One instantly feels like in somebody's living-room. All pastries, cakes and every other dish on the weekly changing lunch menue is homemade from scratch by the owner, 25-years old Marie. The cinnamon roll is a must, but so is the applepie with caramel and sea salt. Definitely worth a detour off the beaten tracks!
Das Ambiente im Inneren des Cafés ist sehr gemütlich und stilsicher, passend zum Konzept. Die Frühstückskarte ist vielfältig, so das jeder etwas leckeres findet. Die Qualität der Zutaten ist spitze und es war sehr lecker, auch wenn es noch etwas liebevoller angerichtet werden könnte.Der Service war sehr freundlich und die Zimtschnecke zum Schluss der Knaller!!Ich komme sehr gerne wieder zum Frühstück.Leider gibt es dieses nur bis 14:00, was ich persönlich schade finde da ich zu jeder Tageszeit Frühstück mag ;)
Gemütliche Atmospäre und tolles Frühstück, sehr schöne Auswahl (ich hatte Frühstück Lille und frischen Minztee). Besonders das leckere Brot von der Bäckerei Vetter und das hausgemachte Knäcke. Sensationell ist die Karamellbutter! Der Service war sehr aufmerksam und freundlich. Weiter so! Ich komme gerne wieder!!!
