Isabella's Bistro in Englewood is our go-to place for Italian food. It's an hour and change drive each way, but absolutely worth it. To start, the owners, Tommy and Sandy, will treat you like family. Tommy used to own a restaurant in New York that we would frequent often. They want their guests to enjoy the time there as well as enjoy their food. We have had Cindy and Gracie as our servers. Upon arrival, the owner welcomed us by name and graciously seated us. Our meal was outstanding. We started with fried calamari as an appetizer, followed by delicious homemade lentil soup for both me and my husband. I chose the chicken Mona Lisa, which was a chef’s special recommendation. It was fantastic—perfectly balanced flavors and a generous portion! My husband opted for the veal cacciatore, which he thoroughly enjoyed but couldn't finish due to its size, so we ended up with another large portion to take home. Appetizer soggy white bread topped with chopped fresh tomatoes. Lentil soup was good. Husband had Chicken Caprese, kept saying something is wrong with this chicken, so I tasted it. It was like frozen chicken that had just been parboiled, tasteless. I had penne pasta with mozzarella and eggplant. It was a large serving of overcooked pasta with tiny pieces of eggplant. The little pieces of eggplant were tasty. There was so much overdone pasta that I couldn't eat, the dish looked like I never touched it! To add insult, the bill included a 20% gratuity! Unfortunately, our order was mixed up; my wife ordered clams with angel hair pasta, while I ordered a chicken dish with linguine, and our pastas were swapped. Additionally, the dish I ordered was supposed to be mildly spicy, but it turned out to be so hot that it took my breath away. Overall, we won’t be returning. It was a really nice atmosphere We had good food. My veal piccata was greaty mom's linguine and clams was as well. My sis had a veal on cream sauce and it was a little bland so we asked for parsley to freshen it up as well as block pepper and a little whit wine and they were of parsley but gave us dried. Ok. I recently visited this restaurant with some friends and had a great experience. I started with the caprese salad, followed by the chicken piccata, and finished with cheesecake for dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious! I would definitely return. Just a heads up: they only serve beer and wine.
