I ordered risotto, a hefty $20. It was a pumpkin/rice/watery sludge made worse by chucking in a whole heap of salad ingredients. Including radish!!! It was left virtually untouched but a swarm of staff who were preparing serving lines/races for the evening meal to follow didn't bother to ask how it was. My mum had the duck confit. Plonked on a bed of mash and swimming in a tinned cheery sea it was not saved by the addition of a duck spring roll. That was drowned in star anise (?) Chinese 5 spice (?) sawdust (?) and inedible. Oh yeah - we had to pay for a (supermarket special) bread roll each. My mum and I spent 15 minutes negotiating the inaccessible toilets but in that time no-one asked why...
I have been to this place a couple of years ago with poor results, but thought it could only improve however not so went with three other people to have a meal last Saturday night not many people there which is probably the result of the food being so bad.I had a soup which was almost uneatable the rest of the group had steaks which where tough, dry and of poor quality. We didn't bother complaining because management in there blind stupidity take no notice at all.This place is on its way out and probably won"t exist in a years time and wouldn't now only for the golf course. Take my advice do not have a meal here as you will be disappointed.
We attended here again recently for a quick lunch and found the staff to be very polite and helpful. We both chose a meal from the daily specials which was called a mixed beef grill or similar. The meal was a small serve of salad and chips with a beef pattie, bacon and egg with some tomato relish. We found the food to be fine but could be best described as a hamburger without the bread roll. The meal was small but at the members price of $10.00 each we could not complain. We will continue to try the offerings at the Rich River Club as they are always very reasonable.
We ordered Atlantic Salmon entree - at $18 it was grossly overpriced however my hubby enjoyed it. My South Melbourne Dim Sims were good value at $7 main courses from the specials menu - Mongolian Beef was a little soggy but tasted good and the slow cooked roast pork was delicious , however the veggies were very hard and underdone- the two little - emphasis on little! Roast potatoes were perfect. It needed a little more gravy and the apple sauce belonged in a sweet dish. But the crackle was to die for! All in all not a bad meal.

GOOD FOOD IF THEY CAN GET YOUR ORDER RIGHT, this is the second or third time we have had our order mucked up. They fix the problem, but by the time it is sorted the rest of our table have finished their meal. Not setup for Kids but you can get kids meals, and buy a $3 colouring book to amuse themselves.
One sometimes gets the feeling that one has been to a Bistro and seen them all - but the James Maiden Bistro has quite a few interesting dishes. My partner had the Morrocan Chicken (Gluten Free), and although I considered the Crusted Lamb Rack, I finally chose the Atlantic Salmon. Both were very good.
We have eaten here several times over the years on our trips to Echuca and have always found the meals to be very tasty, nicely presented and the service has been very good. There never seems to be much of a wait for the orders to come through, even though you may need to queue when ordering.
great service meals were a bit over priced for a club, service was friendly, and meals arrived in good time, breakfasts were interesting but again quite pricey

Food and service is 1st class. Excellent menu and not expensive. Service was very quick and the staff made you feel very welcome.
The menu caters for everyone. Guten free is not a problem. Meals are very very priced and serves are very generous.
