Excellent food and opportunities for music by the side of the Dordogne These gardens were originally created by Josephine Baker to provide a playground for the children she adopted and who lived in the Chateau des Milandes on the hill above. This place had declined over many years but has now received a loving facelift after being bought by Rosemary xxxxx and her husband with the intention of recreating a music venue and an excellent restaurant in this lovely location. We have eaten lunch and dinner at this establishment many times over the years. Owners have changed, but the location is superb you can have lunch (or dinner) sitting under trees alongside the Dordogne river. The new owners this year have continued the traditioin of an excellent value 3 course lunch (12.50 euros) and have added a new offer oif one main course, one drink and access to the lovely swimming pool and also the crazy golf course for 14.50 euros per person. This really is a superb location we had lunch here in mid june 2013 and the new chef provided`us with a very good confit de canard lunch our first this year. With a 50 cl carafe of wine and coffee this came to 40 euros good value...
Went for family lunch. Spectacular place and lovely atmosphere. Perfect for a coke Ordered lunch. Hamburgers, duck breast and kids menus. Frankly very badly cooked burgers. All was burned. The Bread, the duck and the optaties fried in burned oil. Staff was underpowered and one waitress quite unfriendly. Sat waiting for desert for app 30 minutes until i was fed up and went to pay with the patron. He apologized for the food. Very friendly patron so i hope he can change the course of this place in little dordogne paradise!
Ce magnifique Château vous offre une vue sur la fantastique vie de Josephine Baker. La promenade à travers les salles montre non seulement ses magnifiques costumes, mais aussi de nombreuses photos candides de sa vie privée et publique. C'est fait avec beaucoup de goût. En bonus, il y a un spectacle d'oiseaux de proie comprenant de jolis hiboux et faucons. Même si les commentaires sont en français, c'est toujours fascinant. Hautement recommandé.
Les jardins ont été conçus à l'origine au début du XXe siècle par Jules Vacherot. En 2016, les jardins ont été largement restaurés, y compris de magnifiques cours d'eau copiés à partir de 1909 dessins. C'est un joli jardin tranquille pour se promener. Plus de 70 oiseaux de proie résident au château et nous avons pu observer quelques-uns des faucons qui montrent la proue de ces oiseaux.
