France is especially wonderful in placing superb restaurants in the middle of nowhere. Well, to be fair, it is not nowhere, but a pleasant pastoral setting. There is extraordinary detail in the placement of flowers, shrubs, plants, big bay windows-and a lovely patio next to a very ancient tree. This is fine dining at a fairly high price point. If you can foot the tab, you will find it a very pleasant place. There is a very large young staff that make up for finesse with earnestness. The chef is out and about making sure all is running well. I am mindful that we just paid twice as much for a Sunday lunch as we did for a Saturday Dinner in Romans. In music, sports, and professions, as you go up the pyramid, the views are more sensational, the style the more subtle and the price rises. There is some sensational cooking here if you can afford it. A rather extensive wine list allows one to indulge in a wide range of fine wines, especially from Burgundy and the Cote du Rhone-but don't expect any bargains. There is creativity, quality and finesse here-all in very pleasant surroundings. If you want a memorable day in the country, away from Lyon, and near its airport, keep this address in mind.

We were 5 motorcyclists from London on our way to Grenoble and the Vercors. This was lunch on day 2 and only a short run from the A43/E70. We wanted to spoil ourselves rather than use a motorway services. There is a good car park with shade and I booked well in advance and asked to sit outside on the terrace. We arrived a little late, but there was a friendly welcome and we were led to our table on the terrace under the shade of a large tree. The food was excellent and although we didn’t have any alcohol, the wine list is very good and features some local wines. The service was very good and we lingered because of the pleasant atmosphere. It was a lovely distraction from the journey. This restaurant is worth making a deviation from your journey to visit. Would we go again? Yes if I could make the timing work so we could enjoy a long leisurely lunch.

L'Alouette is one of those places which combines delicious food and charming atmosphere. The menu will speak of itself.... distinguished, tasty, amazingly well presented and to a very high quality standard. The staff all of them without exceptions) will make you feel warmly welcome and will guide you through a menu of adventurous and gastronomic dishes. If you are lucky you may also have the chance to meet with the Chef in person which I did). To summarize, I would highly recommend l'Alouette to any of you who would pass by Heyrieux/BONNEFAMILLE in France.

I have often taken my international clients to share in the remarkable cuisine offered by Jean Claude, but this time the challenge! It was for me, the non Frenchie, to organise a 65th Anniversary dinner for my in laws (all French)! Jean Claude was indeed up to the challenge everything was perfect! From the warm welcome, to the private dining room, to the excellent service and the wonderful food, it was PERFECT. A nice bottle of my favourite Cote Rotie from the well stocked cellar of course contributed to our well being...
